The Demolition Family

I loved sports but yearned to work on longer stories. I wanted to do more journalistic assignments. A photo editor from Geo magazine called my brother Jack and I and asked us to photograph the demolition of the Marlboro Blenheim hotel in Atlantic City. Atlantic City was dying and gambling was going to save it. What we didn’t know was they were going to bring it down with dynamite. The story appeared in the American, French and German editions of Geo and Life Magazine. It was distributed all around the world by the Black Star Agency.

Jack and I covered a lot of events together and often were in precarious positions. When I lost contact with him while he was in a front loader operating a remote camera I thought he was in trouble. I was relieved when the smoke cleared and I regained radio contact with him.

We were a good team.
