Introduction

Life Magazine May 1989

I was always an observer of life when I was growing up. I grew up with television and the weekly magazines like Look and Life. Those magazines took me to faraway places and I admired the men and women who photographed those exotic events and locales. I was enthralled by the world that they brought to my fingertips. Things are different now. Moments in people’s lives are brought to us instantaneously. Somehow I think the little quiet moments have been trivialized.

I was fortunate to be able to work as a photojournalist for some of the magazines that I admired. I believe in the reality of the photograph whether it is film or digital, but there is a inherent responsibility when taking a photograph. I believe life can still be captured with a sensitive and responsible click of the camera.

I have been a photographer for the past fifty years and have been fortunate enough to document a small slice of life.
