After that story in Geo I researched and proposed an essay about the Mohawk Ironworkers who have been working on high steel in our cities for generations.
I spent three months photographing their amazing work in NYC and The Caughnawaga reservation in Canada. Three generations of Mohawks have commuted to sites all over the U.S. to help build our skyscrapers and bridges.
Many thanks to Freddy Kirby up top & Mike Bush from the American Indian house for showing me the way.
This story was also never published because the writers assigned did not turn in acceptable manuscripts. They were my stories and I should have written them.
